Ingredients:
-
1 pound ziti pasta
-
1 jar (24 oz) marinara sauce
-
1 pound ground beef or Italian sausage
-
2 cups ricotta cheese
-
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
-
1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
-
2 cloves garlic, minced
-
1 tablespoon olive oil
-
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
-
Salt and pepper to taste
-
Fresh basil for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
-
Cook the Pasta
Boil the ziti according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside. -
Prepare the Sauce
Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté garlic until fragrant, then add ground beef or sausage. Cook until browned. Stir in marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Let it simmer for 5-7 minutes. -
Layer the Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked ziti, meat sauce, ricotta cheese, and half of the mozzarella and Parmesan. Mix well. -
Assemble the Dish
In a baking dish or an air fryer-safe dish, spread a layer of the ziti mixture. Top with the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese. -
Bake (Traditional Oven Method)
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the ziti for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. -
Air Fryer Method
Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C). Place the air fryer-safe dish inside and cook for 12-15 minutes, or until the cheese is golden and bubbly. Check midway to ensure even cooking. -
Serve
Remove the baked ziti from the oven or air fryer and let it rest for 5 minutes. Garnish with fresh basil if desired and serve warm.
Tips for Perfect Baked Ziti
-
Substitute ground turkey or a plant-based alternative for a lighter or vegetarian version.
-
For extra creaminess, add a splash of heavy cream to the sauce.
-
Use the air fryer for smaller portions or reheating leftovers; it gives the dish a crispy, cheesy top layer.
This baked ziti recipe delivers a hearty, flavorful meal with a creamy cheese layer and a crispy top. Whether you use an oven or air fryer, the results are equally delicious!
